Day 1-2: We are so excited to start our pilgrimage trip to Italy. After landing, we can’t wait to visit our first spot, the Catacombe di San Callisto, notable for containing the Crypt of the Popes, which once held the tombs of several popes from the 2nd to 4th centuries.
Day 3: On the third day, it was our greatest honor to visit the Holy See—Vatican City—and pass through the Holy Door in St. Peter’s Basilica. We also had the chance to pass through the Holy Door of Saint Paul Outside the Walls, which opens only in the jubilee year, with the greatest grace from God.
Day 4: On the fourth day, we had another opportunity to pass through the other two holy doors at the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano and the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, which are the other two papal basilicas of Rome. Additionally, we are so grateful that our tour guide added the Colosseum as a surprise gift for us.
Day 5: As a group of pilgrims, we attended a weekday Mass at San Silvestro in Capite. It was a wonderful experience to have our first Mass to praise and give thanks to God during this pilgrimage tour. Furthermore, we visited two famous spots, the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps, which are fabulously and memorable. Lastly, we visited the Abbazia delle Tre Fontane, where St. Paul was executed. We were deeply touched to visit this site in person.
Day 6: It was the most exciting day for all of us as we visited the city of Assisi, where our school’s patron saint, St. Francis, lived. We even had the chance to attend a vigil Mass in the chapel of the Basilica of Saint Francis.
Day 7: We visited two amazing museums in Florence: the Uffizi Galleries and the Galleria dell'Accademia. We were all amazed by the masterpieces, especially the Statue of David; it was indeed magnificent.
Day 8: One day in Assisi is never enough. Therefore, we went to Assisi again on the eighth day. We had a more in-depth visit to St. Francis' living place and his life. Afterwards, we went to Piazzale Michelangelo to admire the scenery of Florence.
Day 9-11: On the ninth day, we enjoyed our last day in Italy. We spent the whole day in Florence, visiting its famous landmark—the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. Lastly, we spent some time in the supermarket buying souvenirs for our families, and we returned to Hong Kong safely. Thank God!
