- Our History
St. Francis of Assisi's English Primary School is a non-profit private primary school. Founded in 1955, our school has incorporated the educational philosophy of Father HORIS DE AUGEUS PIME. At that time, the school was a building with two storeys, including the ground floor of St. Francis of Assisi Church, a school hall, a playground and twelve classrooms.
Another school building with five storeys was built alongside the playground in 1962. The number of classrooms was increased to 26. Since 1962, the school has officially been named St. Francis of Assisi’s English Primary School. To comply with the trend of education, the whole-day school policy was implemented in 1999.
As a Catholic Dioceses primary school, we take Jesus as our role model and follow his commandments. Based on the mission of all Catholic schools, we are committed to develop and promote the 5 core values of Catholic education, namely Love, Life, Family, Truth and Justice. These core values guide us on our whole person development.
In 1995, Former Principal Mr Leung Wai Choi introduced Gifted Education in SFA. He encouraged teachers and students to adopt the 3 core elements in gifted education through school-based curriculum and pull-out programmes. Thereafter, we have established a sound system to nurture our students and develop their talents. In 2012, Former Principal Mr Lau Wai Ming kicked off the development of eLearning in SFA. BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) was implemented since then. iPad usage became part of our daily routine and eLearning became essential in our education.
In 2019, we put a huge effort in developing a new Vision, Mission, and Value statement. With the leading of the school managers and the contribution of all teachers, we developed a VMV that would act as the beacon of light that guides us to excel and offer the best to all the stakeholders. It sets a concrete framework to steer the school to embark on a new journey. At the same time, Service Leadership Education was adopted as part of our mission. We nurture our students and prepare them well for the future.
In the past few decades, SFA has evolved in several ways. For instance, our school song was created in the 50th Anniversary. The writer of the song is our Former Teacher Miss Man Kwan Chi. Prior to this, our students used to recite the prayer of our patron saint, St. Francis of Assisi, in the morning assembly. Yet, we still endeavor to live up to the contents in his prayer.
Our school motto was established in the 60th Anniversary. It was selected by our Former School Supervisor Rev. Father Stephen Tam. With the guiding of our VMV, we are looking forward to celebrate our 70th Anniversary and many more milestones to come in the future. At SFA, we always strive for excellence. Our effort and devotion will never cease.
Jesus said, ‘Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.’
Matthew 24:35
